False Light

Examples
Trying to smear someone vis-a-vis the issue of abortion by saying "She's been pregnant 8 times...but only has 2 children" when the speaker knows that it's because the woman suffered several miscarriages; was at a gay bar with a gay man." That may well be true, but if shared in a way calculated to cause the listener to perceive that the man in question is gay when the speaker knows that he is not, this may be false light; a practical matter, this is very difficult to prove because so much is open to interpretation.
Definition
Sharing information about a person in a context or manner that is intended to distort the information or cause it to be misconstrued in a way that would damage the person.
Comments
This is similar to defamation but with a few differences: Truth is not a bar; in fact, the information in false light is usually true or mostly true; however, it's about the way or context in which the information is portrayed.
